The language list comes from the voices your browser and operating system actually provide. Chrome ships Google network voices, Edge and Windows add natural offline voices, macOS/iOS contribute their premium voices.

The Web Speech API never hands the synthesised audio to the page, so this tool plays but cannot export an MP3. For a file, use a server-side TTS site (such as crikk.com, the reference for this page).

What this tool is

TextToSpeech ports the flow of crikk.com/text-to-speech - paste text, pick a voice, get audio - entirely into your browser: up to 2,500 characters of text, any voice your browser and operating system actually provide (English, Chinese and every installed language), adjustable rate, pitch and volume, and playback with pause/resume/stop. Long text is automatically cut into sentence-sized chunks, which sidesteps Chrome's old habit of going silent mid-sentence.

The big difference from the reference site is the engine: Crikk synthesises on its servers and hands you an MP3, while this page calls the browser's own Web Speech API. Voices come from your browser and OS, synthesis runs locally (or through the browser's own cloud), no text passes through this server - hence no quota, unlimited reads, and no MP3 download (the page simply cannot capture that audio stream). What you get in exchange is zero wait, zero upload, open-and-go.

FAQ

Why do I get different voices than my friend?
Voices are not supplied by this site but by your browser and operating system: Chrome adds a set of Google network voices (they need the internet), Edge/Windows ship natural offline voice packs, and macOS/iOS contribute the premium voices downloaded under accessibility settings. Different devices therefore surface different voice pools.
There is no Chinese voice - what now?
Your device has no Chinese speech pack installed yet. On Windows: Settings → Time & Language → Speech → Add speech, install Chinese and reload. On macOS: System Settings → Accessibility → Spoken Content → Manage Voices. Chrome's Google voices appear only while online. Once installed, zh-CN / zh-TW entries appear in the language list automatically.
Can I download an MP3?
No. By design the Web Speech API routes synthesised audio straight to your speakers - the page never receives an audio stream it could save. The reference site crikk.com renders on a server and can therefore offer a file. If you must have one, record your system's stereo mix while playing, or use a server-side TTS service.
Why did long reading stop by itself?
Chrome has a long-standing bug where a single utterance past roughly 15 seconds goes silent. This page counters it two ways: long text is cut into chunks of at most 240 characters at sentence punctuation, and a keep-alive resume beat is sent every 8 seconds while reading. Together they remove most dropouts; if audio still cuts out, a background tab or a power-saving policy likely muted it.
Is my text uploaded?
Never to this site. The page is fully static with no backend; text is only handed to your browser's own engine. Local voices synthesise entirely on your device; Google network voices are sent by Chrome itself to Google's speech service - that traffic is between your browser and Google, and this site collects and stores nothing.
