Grant Funding
Two groups of funding plus a third for what comes after the PhD: grants to apply for in China, international funding sources, and postdoc & academic job boards. On the domestic side, the National Natural Science Foundation of China covers most of the workflow — proposals, progress and closeout all run through its online management system, while policies, annual programme guidelines and award lists sit on the Commission's main site; social-science applicants go to the national office for philosophy and social science, and national key R&D programmes are handled through the Ministry of Science and Technology portal. The international group covers NIH and NSF in the United States and the EU's Horizon Europe: RePORTER is the place to reverse-check what has already been funded and at what level, Grantome aggregates live calls worldwide, and Grants.gov collects tenders from federal agencies. The job-board group aggregates Chinese and international academic vacancies: read a target group's recent output before applying, and say something specific about their work in your cover letter — it lands far better than a list of credentials; in China, postdoc enrollment and the postdoc fund run through the official China Postdoc portal. Read the current guideline document before drafting — formats and budget templates change year to year — and mine the funding databases for what reviewers actually favour. First-time account registration and institutional affiliation reviews take weeks, so start well before the deadline.
